BY DON PETER OKORO
A well-known grassroot mobilzer, Youth leader and activist, Comrade Emmadavid Okafoagu Jnr. has sensationally revealed that the outgoing Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano is the best Governor Anambra has produced so far.
Speaking on the heels of the recent election in Anambra State which was overwhelming won by the Governor’s party ( APGA), Comrade Okafoagu, when asked to review the tenure of the outgoing Governor, has this to say: ” Chief Willie Obiano happens to be the best Governor as far as I am concerned.I don’t know about others. My reason is not farfetched. The project he handled in Nnewi, my constituency is what I will never forget. I will always remember him in my prayers, asking God to keep him and make him to live long, so he will eat the benefit of his labour. So many people do attack me in some Fora where I belong in Nnewi.
“Whenever they try to criticize him, I would remind them of the 100 foot road erosion gully and they will say everytime you are talking about erosion gully. Then, I tell them in everything we do, we should have scale of preference and order of priorities. That gully erosion was a disaster waiting to happen”.
Without the Governor’s intervention, it would have swept away buildings, families, properties and shops. Had it been the Governor did not come to our rescue, the only thing that Nnewi is using to boast that they have which is the Nwo Nnewi market, otherwise known as “Japan of Africa”, would have been lost.
“There is a standby market at Oba that they would have relocated the traders to. Then who would have been the loser? So, for me, after fixing that 100 foot road gully erosion, he has done what some other persons could not have done in 12 or 16 years. For me that qualifies him as the Best Governor.”
Concerning some Politicians in Nnewi who are throwing tantrums here and there, he has a word of caution for them:. “When they were going about this Nnewi Agenda and said that what Nnewi needed was Executive Power to rebuild Nnewi, they now decided to again go for Senate and also go for House of Representatives. I was drawing their attention to the fact that Governorship is coming down to Anambra South and we are in a good position to take it, but they wouldn’t listen.
“Now, everyone is crying and lamenting that Nnewi lost the Governorship election. My advice for Nnewi people is that we should know exactly what we want and plan ahead. One thing I learnt in politics is that you know what you want, you have the capacity to achieve it and you have the patience to wait.”
I don’t like all this insult going on. People insulting elders because of politics and election. Election has come and gone. Let us just sit down and learn one or two things and move on.”
Appreciating those who contributed to the success of the Governor-elect, Prof. Charles Soludo during the election, Comrade Okafoagu, first of all expressed his gratitude to God, because, according to him, what the enemy planned did not come to pass. He now went on to thank Ogbuefi Melie Onyejepu, Tony Muodelo, members of Ebube Ndigbo Grassroot Movement and the Melie Onyejepu Foundation for the great role they played in delivering the Governor – elect.
On his expectations from the incoming Governor, he stated that he expects him to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor.
In his words:” Chief Obiano (Akpaza Nnewi) has laid a solid foundation for Soludo, who I know as an International man, to build on. “. He debunked the idea that Soludo is disconnected from the masses saying: ” He is an International man like we all know, but he is also a local man. He was born and brought up in the village. So, it won’t be difficult for him to come down to the level of the common man and interact with the grassroot people.”
Praying for Anambra state, he offered that God in His infinite mercy, will bring back peace to Anambra and that the bloodshed will come to an end. He also prayed that the tenure of Chief Obiano and his wife, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano will end well and the entrance of Soludo will usher in a new level of development in Anambra State.
