The Musical Copyright Society Nigeria Limited by Guarantee (MCSN) has scheduled its 2021 Members’ Annual General Meeting (AGM) for Wednesday, 15 December 2021.
In the notice sent out to members dated 15th November 2021 and signed by the Company Secretary, Barrister Adewale Adesokan, SAN, the meeting would receive and consider the Chairman’s Report of events and developments in the Society as at December 31, 2020. It would also receive, consider and approve the Financial Report of the Society for the two years ended 31st December 2020 and the Auditors’ Reports thereon among other businesses.
The meeting is expected to approve a day for an Extra-ordinary General Meeting for the election of Directors into the Board (General Council) of the Society, in the alternative combine it with next Annual General Meeting to be held early in 2022.
The Society was not able to hold physical Annual General Meeting in 2020 due to the pandemic Covid – 19 and its attendant protocols.
Meanwhile members of the Society across the country have started receiving royalties’ payments from the distributions being carried out by the Society. From one of the schedules of payments, the royalties being sent out direct to members’ individual bank accounts date back to year 2006.
In a brief comment, the Society’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mayowa Ayilaran, stated that this is a confirmation and implementation of the law (the Copyright Act) that no matter how long it takes, copyright royalties could be recouped and payments made to qualified creators and rights holders. He assured that having commenced this exercise, it would be a regular feature in the activities of the Society going forward. He advised that members should ensure that they update their records, particularly their current contact addresses and account details with the Society.
Mr. Ayilaran further advised members, whether old or new, to upload their works on the Society’s GoCreate App for easy monitoring and for those who are finding it difficult to upload their works, they should visit the office for necessary assistance.
