Everyone must be security – conscious to stay safe nowadays. Break-ins are as rampant as traffic robberies. Therefore, you’d need to be circumspect. Below are some security self-awareness tips you need to observe:
Lock the bolt behind your door when you come in. This would prevent intruders from coming in and taking you unawares.
Visitors should be required to knock, and make sure you recognize them before you open your door for them to enter. This would prevent unwanted visitors from coming in.
When going out, check all your doors to ensure they’re properly locked. Then, its better and safer to duplicate your keys and share with your flat mates than leave them with neighbours, or drop them somewhere around the house.
Make sure you lock up your cupboards, safe or drawers where valuables are kept, and keep the keys safe.
Never leave your gates open. Keep them locked always. All co-tenants should agree on how to manage the security of the premises, so that all visitors could be properly screened.
If you live in an estate, it is expected that all the residents would ensure that there’s an efficient, security procedure in place to control traffic in and out of the estate.
It’s advisable that occupants of each flat in an estate have the emergency phone numbers of the Police in case of crisis.
Water should be available in a reservoir in case of fire, so that the Fire Brigade Service personnel could have immediate access to water to do their job.
These are some of the basic precautions to take.
