These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
A proud look,
A lying tongue
Hands that shed innocent blood
A heart that deviceth wicked imaginations
Feet that be swift in running to mischief
A false witness that speaketh lies and
He that sowth discord among brethren. Proverbs 6: 16-19.
We see from this reference from the book of Proverbs that God hates all of the above deeds over and above all others. The emphasis here is on the seven deadly sins which were singled out and listed as being an abomination unto God. They are regarded as the greatest evil in His sight. Yet, almost on a daily basis, we see people; including the brethren indulge in some of these at one time or the other.
Let us begin with pride. That probably was the first recorded sin in the Bible. By it, Lucifer fell. Ever since, pride has been known to go before destruction. But some people relish the thought of being proud. You hear some people say, “I’m a proud person”. But this is evil in the sight of God.
The bible is full of warning against pride. (Prov.29:23; Prov.11:2).
God himself resists the proud, but exalts the humble hearted, (Luke 18:14). We Christian should always remember the example of Jesus Christ our Lord, who humbled himself even unto death on a cross.
The hearts of many, including believers (Born Again Christian), are not right. A lot of the brethren are still being by the bondage of lies (Prov. 12:22), mischief, and false accusation which create discord. Alarming blackmail and gossip tear the brethren apart everywhere. Sometimes, discord lead to innocent blood being shed, a great evil in the sight of God. Terrible things are happening even in the congregation of the saints. Many Pastors have tales of woe to tell.
We need grace to be able to please God and walk in his ways because there’s hardly anyone on earth who is not guilty of one of these seven great sins.
Now that we know the seven deadly sins that displease God, we’d do well to avoid them. We should never anger the Almighty God deliberately by doing things we already know He hates. Ps. 19:13 says: “Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be innocent of great transgression.”
