Pastor Isaac Oyedepo, son of Bishop David Oyedepo, caused a stir last year when he told his congregation at the Faith Dome, Maryland, USA that 15 Bibles were buried under pillars, when the church was being built.
He made the revelation in a sermon about standing on the word of God. He said even the church stands on the word (Bible) as the Bibles were buried under the pillars.
BEATS went to town to sample the views of some Pastors on the issue, since there have been divergent views in the Church of Jesus over the propriety or otherwise of the bizarre action. Below are the reactions of the Pastors:
REV JESSE MAJEKODUNMI, G.O NEIGUBOURHOOD CHURCH OF GOD, ATAN, OGUN STATE
Wao! This is just a mere display of religiosity sir. It is not proper.
The power of the word is in a spoken word and not in buried printed words. God laid the foundation of the word with the power of a spoken word. Hebrew 1:3, Gen.1:3.
But I feel it was a sincere mistake on his part sir. I pray to God to erase such mentality from the heart of the hearers.

This reminds me of the Papal Bull and the doctrine of Papal Infallibility of old. Categorically and unambiguously, what Oyedipo’s son (Isaac), did is unscriptural, occultic and diabolical. It should be condemned because it is reprehensible and an aberration. Let’s call a spade a spade, without any tone of ambivalence.
PASTOR BEN ADIGHIBE, BEN ADIGHIBE MINI STRIES
The Bible is the Word of God and should be used as specified in 2 Tim 3:16. Any other way such as burying it under a building foundation or even putting it under your pillow as protection and not with the intention of reading and speaking it into your life and situation becomes occultism. The kingdom of darkness uses the Bible this way. Therefore the devil will not run away on seeing the Bible but devil runs when a carrier of Jesus Christ speaks the word because it comes out of his mouth as a flaming sword of fire which the devil cannot comprehend.
PASTOR MICHAEL IHEANACHO, GOSPEL LIGHT HOUSE, INC
Christianity has been in a dedicated by so many erroneous notions majority of which falls into the category of heresies, extra biblical teachings and teachings which are; when properly examined are part of paganistic rites and rituals practiced among the heathens. God directed Moses to rear up a tabernacle in the wilderness around the Sinai Mountain.
Moses responded by doing that without having to bury anything either at the outer, inner or innermost courts. Blood sacrifices of rams, lambs, bulls and the red heifer with pigeons and turtle doves were offered at the brazen altar.
There was no mention of burial of any thing animate or inanimate thereto. The same goes for the Temple built by Solomon BenDavid; Zerubabbel and even king Herod’s enlargement and refurbishment of the Zerubabbel Temple which began 16AD. Even the tyrant Herod the idumean knew well to approach the reconstruction and renovation efforts with fear and respect such that he hired a thousand Jewish priests as part of the building workforce.
Therefore the burial of bibles in the foundation of church building is not a part of Judaeo-Christian practice and finds no basis in both the old Testament or New Testament tenets of faith and practice. The burial of artifacts and tokens in a building foundation dates back to the practices of the despicable Amorites whom God drove out of Canaan.
