Rev Chris Okotie is rounding off the celebration of the 35th anniversary of his ministry with the final celebration of the month-long festivities this weekend, Sunday, February 27, 2023, to be precise.
Music, dance, testimonies, and his personal reminiscences have marked the celebration since Sunday, February 5, 2022, when the festivities started, although Okotie actually began his church, Household of God on February 1, 1987, after a sensational career as a recording artiste.
The Shepard Superintendent of the Household of God, Oregun, Lagos is known for his grandiloquence and is often the butt of jokes over his “big grammar”. One such reaction came from his Youtube broadcasting (following the death of controversial Prophet, T.B Joshua, whom Okotie has always called a false prophet.
In the broadcast, as seen here, a blogger extracted a portion where Rev Okotie claimed he had nothing personal against T.B Joshua, using his usual high-sounding words:
When contacted, Rev Okotie took a jibe at the blogger by saying his “big grammar” is evidence of “scholarship in the church”.
In effect, the preacher is saying that the Body of Christ has a growing number of educated elites in the pulpit.
Clearly, as he did in show business and even during his foray into politics as a presidential candidate on three occasions, Rev Okotie’s advent in the ministry has added colour and controversy to the pulpit.
