Stella Addah Monye made a name as Nigerian’s Queen of lover’s rock, that’s why she’s called Samba Queen, after one of her hits, Arigo Samba. But she launched herself into reckoning with “Okomi Ye”, his first major hit in the 80s on the Tabansi label.
Gifted with a sexy, velvet voice, the creative singer/composer is a humor merchant who’s a delight to be with. However, tragedy struck the good-natured Stella in the early 90s when his only son, Ibrahim Amusan, after his late father without whom Monye had a brief liaison that produced the boy. The singer prefers calling him Amaechi.
Amaechi had a near-fatal plunge during a reckless childhood stunt with other boys, falling on a tap and injuring his urethra and kidney, and bladder. A series of high–level medical procedures in Lagos, India, and the USA at the moment is yet to get the youngster complete healing.
This man’s misfortune has adversely affected Stella’s career and private life. Talking about private life, she had a long, close relationship with the late PMAN President Bolaji Rosiji. The singer always made it clear that the relationship was platonic, although they appeared to work on Rosiji’s project together.
“Most people thought we were going out but it wasn’t true; Stella often said.
However, when Rosiji died recently, she revealed during a casual conversation with BEATS Publisher, Ladi Ayodeji, another close friend of the Samba Queen that, their relationship later becomes amorous, from Rosiji’s point of view.
“Bolaji (Rosiji) actually proposed to me several times, but I didn’t give him any positive response. I just wasn’t in the mood for all that, so until his death, we remained friends”, was according to Stella.
Stella, who still misses Rosiji said his last days were really unpleasant. “The sickness took its toll. I don’t know why he didn’t go abroad for better medical attention. He could obviously afford it”, she said.
What shocked the Samba Queen was that Rosiji seemed to have recovered when he died suddenly. It’s really very sad.
