Bad breath or halitosis is a common problem. According to dental experts, it is caused by a myriad of issues. When I visited my dentist recently, we discussed the various causes and how to deal with them.
Below are details I’d like to share with you:
- Practice oral hygiene. Brush your teeth every day after meal, not before meal as most people do.
- Brush your teeth horizontally, i.e up, down, up down; not sideways as most people do. And do it slowly, lest you injure your gum.
- If you notice blood as you brush, see your dentist. You may have an infection of the gum or mouth. But don’t use a hard brush that could injure your gum.
- Carefully examine your teeth. If you notice any hole, see your doctor because such holes could collect deposits of food remnants that could cause mouth odour.
- Brush the back of the tongue, towards the throat. There, you’d see huge whitish deposits, which could cause mouth odour.
- Some habits like drinking and smoking could cause mouth odour.
- If you take garlic, it could cause some unpleasant odour because of its peculiar smell. So, you’ve to clean up your mouth after eating these valuable fruits.
- Indigestion is also a source of mouth odour. So, ensure your food digests by drinking water after meals. You could drink yoghurt to get your food digestible quickly.
- It’s advisable you see your dentist for scaling and polishing every six months. It helps to maintain dental health.
- Chew chewing gum regularly to prevent dryness of the mouth; another source of mouth odour.
