At last, long-suffering Manchester united fans can heave a sigh of relief as Erik Ten Hag takes charge of the under-performing club next season.
Ten Hag is the fifth permanent manager of the club after the departure of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, whose long reign ended in 2013 after his retirement.
Sir Alex won everything for Man U but since his exit, the club has been struggling. It’s unbelievable that a last-four finish has become a big challenge for a club that dominated English football for decades, winning a record 20 Premiership titles and major continental trophies.
But today, at the time of this writing, Manchester United is sitting sixth on the league table, with little hope of playing in the Champions League next season.
Ten Hag, current Ajax coach, has done a great job of transforming the famous Dutch champions, who hadn’t won the domestic league for three years until the Ten Hag era began.
He is on course for a third league title, and in 2019, he took Ajax to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 22 years.
Ten Hag is expected to bring this type of turnaround mechanism to suffering Manchester United. But, he needs time and the support of the fans and the club management. This iconic club has the largest fan base in England and one of the biggest in Europe and around the world.
It’s the pride of English football. Let’s hope that Erik Ten Hag would be able to restore this great club to winning ways.
