The Rural Electrification Agency, REA has officially signed a grant agreement with the Nigerian Electrification Project to improve access to power for under served and bridging electricity gap in the country.

The grant agreement REA said was part of the Output Based Fund (OBF) grant offer for the sale of solar home systems to homes and businesses across Nigeria and implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) of Nigeria, with support from the World Bank.

The Managing director of the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria (REA), Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, signed the grant agreement with the Head of REA’s Project Management Unit (PMU), Nigerian Electrification Project (NEP), Anita Otubu and the MD of Salpha Energy, Sandra Chukwudozie.

Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad noted that this event speaks to the determination of the REA and companies present, to secure a better future and increase the nation’s economic growth, as electricity remains a major catalyst to the country’s development.

He added that there are great investment opportunities in the renewable energy off-grid sector and partnership with the REA through the NEP will be responsible for transforming electricity access in Nigeria

Providing the grant against each system after installation means that the government knows what it is getting for its money, and automatically directs the grant proportionally towards those solar providers that are most successful in serving more customers.

Salpha Energy (Salpha) designs, manufactures and offers commoditized solar systems and lithium storage solutions in

Africa. The company’s vision is to provide sustainable solutions to enable people scale up the energy ladder.

Salpha Energy’s range of solar home systems has the capacity to offer lighting, charge phones and power appliances like Fans, TVs, Fridges, laptops etc. Customers can own the unit outrightly and have the option to upgrade to larger solar home systems.

The company has already fitted more than 26,000 of its systems in homes and businesses around Nigeria, and plans to increase its reach by ten times as part of the government funding.
