Simon, Amoo nominated for CAF Player of the Year awards
Nigerian duo, Moses Simon and Akinkunmi Amoo have been nominated for the CAF Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.
CAF released the first list of nominees for the Men’s categories namely Player of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year on Thursday.
Simon made the shortlist following an impressive outing for Nigeria at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations early this year in Cameroon.
The winger also starred in his club, Nantes Coupe de France success last season.
The former Levante player scored six goals and recorded eight assists in 30 league appearances for Nantes last season.
Transfer: Dybala leads two other top stars out of Juventus
Paulo Dybala leads the list of high-profile names leaving Juventus this summer.
The Argentine international has been the subject of transfer speculation with the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and Inter Milan all keen on a move for the player who is out of contract.
Dybala made 293 appearances for Juve, scoring 115 goals and providing 45 assists, leading to a glowing tribute on the club’s website.
Dybala isn’t the only notable name leaving the Italian giants this summer, with Alvaro Morata and Feder.

Commonwealth Games: Table tennis team to camp in Lagos
Table tennis players expected to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will resume camping in Lagos next week.
The Games were held from July 28 to August 8.
It was gathered that the team will comprise eight athletes. It was also learned that the player’s current rankings and form would be used as criteria for player selection for the games.
Top stars Quadri Aruna, Edem Offiong, and Fatimo Bello are among the players expected to make the team, barring any last-minute hitch.
Ighalo: My 17-year wait for first league title
Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo is thrilled to have won the first-ever league title of his career after 17 years.
Ighalo, who has played league football in seven different leagues (Nigeria, Norway, Italy, Spain, England, China, and Saudi Arabia) across Europe and Asia without winning a league title, broke the jinx by helping Al Hilal clinch their 18th Saudi topflight title, scoring twice as they beat Al Faisaly 2-1 on Monday.
The brace also earned him the top scorer’s award in his first season at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium.
Ighalo scored 24 goals to finish as the league’s highest goalscorer – beating Brazilian duo Romarinho and Talisca to joint-second place (20 goals each).
It was the first time also in his career that he emerged topscorer in the league he played in.
Boxing: Usman’s manager eyes McGregor clash
Kamaru Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz is of the opinion that UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman would be too much of a challenge now for Conor McGregor who is working on a return to the fight scene.
Abdelaziz thinks the UFC should give McGregor an “easy money” comeback fight to rehabilitate his image.
