Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has told Cristiano Ronaldo that he needs to get fitter and become more selfless if he wants to play a major part in his team.
Ronaldo will stay at Old Trafford until January, after he failed to force a move away this summer.
However, Ten Hag made it clear that the 37-year-old has to adapt to the changing philosophy at Old Trafford rather than the other way around.
Ronaldo has started only once under the Dutchman — the 4-0 defeat at Brentford — after missing the club’s tour to Australia for personal reasons.
He is likely to start from the bench again against Arsenal on Sunday, as the Red Devils have won three consecutive matches with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga upfront.
“I will be his friend, sometimes I will be his teacher. It depends on the situation.
“As we all know, he didn’t have the pre-season and you can not miss the pre-season.
“It depends, demands, co-operation and demands certain positioning, in and out of possession. And the other thing is fitness,” Ten Hag said.
