Ahead of the NFF Elections slated for September 30, 2022 in Benin City, Edo State, the Osun State Football Association Chairman, Chief Rasaq Mustapha, has joined the ever growing list of State FA Chairmen and critical stakeholders who have declared their support for the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF), Barrister Seyi Akinwumi who is gunning for the apex position of the federation.
In a chat with Osun Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), on Tuesday during the .monthly stakeholder’s forum of the association, the “Ajiroba Ooni” of Ile-Ife, said he and many other chairmen from the South West and beyond, were supporting Barr. Akinwumi, because of his wealth of experience, human relations, exposure and preparedness for the onerous task of NFF president.
“We all know that the position of NFF president is not for babies due to the fact that football has become an important sector in Nigeria. Whoever should get to that position must have been tested and certified. We need a thoroughbred professional who is not only able, but fit, capable and possesses the required leadership experience and exposure.
“Among all aspirants, majority of us support Barr. Akinwumi because of his understanding of the game and his vast experience. He is fully armed with a wonderful vision and template of how to develop football in the country and he is ready to invest his time and energy in the development of grassroot football for the benefit of all. We believe that he would run the affairs of the federation democratically and in such a way that all states will benefit.”
As the pitch for the NFF exalted seat gets higher, it has become obvious that Nigeria football needs a proactive, experienced, charismatic, responsive and selfless leadership.
These characteristics, have continued to endear Seyi Akinwunmi, fondly called BSA, to all genuinely concerned stakeholders in Nigerian football. Feelers reaching this desk have also indicated that more State FA Chairmen and other critical stakeholders across other regions of the country, are moving towards making open and unalloyed declaration of their supports for Akinwunmi, who they believe can take Nigeria Football out of its present doldrums.
