A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Wednesday remanded a 27-year-old man, Okechukwu Jaja, in a correctional centre following his plea of guilty to stealing.
Jaja, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing a Suzuki mini bus valued N1, 800,000.
The chief magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, adjourned the case until Nov.15 for review of facts of the case and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP. Clement Okuoimose, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept.15, at about 7.00 a.m., at Anthony Street in Ayetoro Ijanikin area of Lagos State.
Okuoimose told the court that the defendant stole one Suzuki mini bus with registration number FKJ 732 YC belonging to one Chinedu Enalamah, the complainant.
“The defendant was arrested by the people who saw him driving the bus out of the compound and handed him over to the police for prosecution,’’ the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years’ imprisonment for stealing.
