…tourney starts Tuesday at Abesan

All is now set for the 2022 edition of Abisco Football Championship among grassroots football teams in Lagos State.
Draws for the championship, which is expected to feature 32 teams drawn from the Abesan, Iyana-Ipaja axis and other parts of the state was held Friday, at Mosan Okunola LCDA Secretariat.
The well attended draws for championship, which is being sponsored by the Executive Chairman of Mosan-Okunola LCDA, Hon. Princess Olabisi Adebajo, would see teams battle for the top prizes and the giant gold trophy, beginning Tuesday November 22 to December 9, 2022, at the Abesan Youth Centre.
Spokesperson of the organisers, Great dynamics Talents Limited, Deborah Okediadi, stated that the championship would begin on a knockout basis to produce qualifiers for the second round of matches.
The second round matches, also on knockout basis, would eventually see 8 qualifiers grouped into two groups of four teams each, with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the semi-finals.
“After the knockout stages, the 8 teams would be divided into two groups, and with the top two in each group, qualifying for the semi-finals and then onto the finals,” Okediadi explained.
Speaking on the format of the championship, she said, “the Abisco Cup is coming with its own unique rules and regulations. As we are set to bring exciting innovations to grassroots football.
“This year’s edition would a 7-aside matches, and with innovative rules and creative ideas, aimed at improving the tactical, technical and discipline levels of both players and officials,” she enthused confidently.
