Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, has named midfielder Casemiro as the most important signing to help transform the culture at the club.
Ten Hag said this ahead of Man United’s Carabao Cup round of 16 tie with Burnley on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.
Man United signed the likes of Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martínez and Antony in the summer transfer window.
Recall that Casemiro joined Man United from LaLiga champions Real Madrid.
“[I told Man United’s hierarchy] there was no spirit in the team, I did not see any team dynamics in the squad,” Ten Hag told Voetbal International.
“The mental toughness was very low. The fighting spirit, fighting for each other, putting the team first – that did not really exist in the squad. Changing the culture was the most important thing for me when I took over.
“To get that in the dressing room, you need to have personalities that is why the signing of Casemiro was so important. He can speed up the process because he knows what you’ve to do to win titles.”
