Nigeria is blessed and yes, with women of valour and uncommon bravery. Many have permanently etched their prints on the sand of time. And have traversed different walks of life.
It’s no gainsaying that this generation have continued to produce inspirational women in politics, business, leadership, entrepreneurship and yes, in the entertainment industry. And we are happy to recognise many of these women.
Foremost amongst the women in the entertainment industry, is Mrs. Keji Okunowo, who was the Managing Director of the now rested Sony Music Company in Nigeria. That company produced so many top Nigerian music stars that ruled the waves in the late 80s and early 90s.
Okunowo is not alone in this reverred class. Nigeria music has once again been blessed with another very resourceful music aficionado and business savvy music company head honcho.
When Bimbo Esho took over the reins of Evergreen Musical Company, from her retired father, Chief Femi Esho, skepticism was rife. However, like the sayings on the streets, ‘Lion nor dey born goat’, Bimbo Esho, has come out good and of course, proving the skeptics and cynics wrong, that she is a true chip of the old block.
More than mere rhetorics and vain-glorious remarks, she has continued to affirm her commitment to the protection and promotion of Nigerian musical legacy, for which her highly regarded father had given his sweats and resources to keep alive.
However, this is not meant to be about her exploits as a music company boss, this is supposed to celebrate her and thank God for graciously granting her another year in the land of the living.
Bimbo Esho, has variously been described as the ‘musical amazon’. Some calls her the ‘eyes and ears’ of Nigerian music. Others would wisely call her ‘Indigenous African Music Ambassador’. So many monikers. And deservedly, so.
Today, I join the good people of this world, and particularly, the entertainment industry to wish this beautifully endowed, intelligent, street-smart, resourceful, hardworking and patriotic Nigerian woman a most happy and fun-filled birthday celebrations.
Like many of your growing admirers, I pray that God in His infinite mercies continue to guide, guard and bless you.
Enjoy a celebration that would remain ‘Evergreen’, in your memory, for all the good things.
