Veteran producer, Lemmy Otu Jackson was the name behind some wave-making artistes in the golden age of Nigerian Afrofunk music in the ‘80s through ‘90s. Mention Christy Essien – Igbokwu, and Oby Onyioha and others; they owed their rise to the production skill of the talented Mr. Jackson, a native of Akwa Ibom State.
Many were surprised when Jackson relocated suddenly to Uyo, his state capital. For years, he has been very quiet, even as the music industry itself went comatose. However, a chance phone encounter between the producer and BEATS Publisher, Ladi Ayodeji revealed a lot about the resourceful Lemmy Jackson.
His full length interview is reserved for a future edition, but he promised to return to Lagos, where he made his name. How soon? We don’t know yet. However, he said he still has plenty of music left in him and the stage is set for him to return to the studio to begin to crank out hits once more.
“I will be back in Lagos soon”, he told the BEATS boss, Ayodeji. Perhaps, Jackson is getting his groove back. He admires some of the new generation music stars, but admits that they are very creative but lack musicianship. Jackson, himself a multi-instrumentalist, was a member of the famous musical group, BLO. He plans to do something new in his second coming to Lagos to get the industry back on track. Watch out for his detailed interview in BEATS, coming out soon.
