Morayo Afolabi-Brown is a star presenter on TVC, Lagos. She anchors YOUR VIEW, the popular, all female talk show, which airs from Mondays to Friday on the TV station.
Morayo is our guest on STAR CHAT. Read on:
Question: How did you come about handling Your View?
Answer: When I got hired at TVC as Deputy Director of Programmes, I told my employer that I had a TV programme concept that I wanted to start. They agreed and that’s how I started auditions to get co-hosts.
Question: When precisely did you begin to anchor the program?
Answer: Well, I never wanted to host the show. I hired someone to do that. Her name is Joy Isi-Bewaji. After 3 months of hosting, she had to move on to other things. I wanted to hire another person but the producer then encouraged me to go ahead and host. That’s how I took the seat.
Question: Why was it suspended some time ago?
Answer: Your View has never been suspended. There was a brief break after the fire last year. Before then, we never went on break.
Question: Which segment is most popular?
Answer: The first segment which is the banter is the most popular. People love how we talk about our families, experiences and personal stories.
Question: With all due respect to your co-presenters, do you agree that your absence affects the program, somehow?
Answer: The truth is, people are attached to me because I always host the show. If another person consistently hosts the show like I have done, the viewers may feel the same way. So it’s the consistency they are used to.
Question: Can you recall the most memorable of all the episodes so far?
Answer: Lots of memorable episodes. It’s hard to choose.
Question: What do you think accounts for the popularity of Your View?
Answer: The grace and mercy of the Almighty God is number one. The show is also popular because of the ‘realness’ of the ladies. They are true and willing to share their knowledge and experiences on the show.
Question: When you are out there in public, fans should be excited to see you. Can you recall any funny incident?
Answer: When I’m with my husband and we are sometimes in a hurry, a fan will just show up and ask for a picture. My husband never finds it funny at all because I often times have to oblige.
Question: Do you interact a lot with your co-presenters off the set?
Answer: We are sisters. We have lunch dates, go to each other’ houses and help each other. We live fairly far apart, so it’s not as often as we’d like but we do have a good relationship
Question: Which of the guests has left the greatest impression on you?
Answer: Can’t remember now but Princess the Comedian sticks out. She is funny and speaks with no restraints. When she comes we have the challenge of keeping up with her on the show.
Question: Can you recall any low point during this program?
Answer: I have had quite a few. The most recent was the fire attack on TVC that also affected me and another co-presenter. It’s quite a challenge understanding government and also expressing the views of Nigerians.
Question: What message do you have for your fans?
Answer: To our fans, thank you for your consistency, love and support. We’ll do our best to continually give you what you want. However, it is also in our collective responsibility not to let Nigeria burn. So, through our programme, we’ll continue to reason with government to find a middle ground.
