The dust surrounding the fate of embattled Super Eagles handler, Genrot Rohr, is yet to settle despite a marathon meeting held in Abuja on Thursday between the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick and League Management Company boss, Shehu Dikko.
Pinnick told the media after the meeting that no decision was reached on the issue but the federation would soon make a statement.
“We have discussed with the Minister, we have a lot steps on a new direction, but I have to discuss with my Executive Members. I will also come back to give feedback to the Minister,” Pinnick said on Thursday.
“We are working in a close harmony with the Sports Ministry. We don’t want to hurt Nigerians; we are looking at our decision from objective perspective. Trust me, whatever we are doing; it will be in the interest of the country.
“We have looked at all the documentation; I can assure Nigerians we will have a clear direction soon,” said Pinnick.
The 68-year-old German has come under heavy criticism following the Super Eagles’ sloppy displays in recent matches.
Nigeria survived a scare from Cape Verde to qualify for the third round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification, settling for a 1-1 draw at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
With some stakeholders calling for the former Burkina Faso coach to be relieved of his role, some are suggesting that the tactician should be allowed to lead the Super Eagles to Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
