The General Assembly meeting of the League Management Company (LMC) and Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Club Owners have endorsed the appointment of Prince Davidson Owumi of Rangers International FC of Enugu as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the LMC.

He replaced first CEO of the body Hon. NdukaIrabor who resigned his appointment last year.

He will bring his wealth of experience to bear in the management of the league rated 9th in Africa.

Owumi is not new to Nigeria Football having proved himself both locally and internationally with pinnacle of his achievement came in 1993 when he claimed the golden boot award of the Nigeria league.

Before securing the appointment of NFF, he is the current General Manager and Chairman of the Rangers International FC.

He guided Rangers to break 32-year jinx in the NPFL when the Enugu State based club won the league in 2016.

Two years later, he guided the team to win the 2018 Aiteo/ FA Cup.

Owumi will bring his wealth of experience to bear in the management of the league rated 9th in Africa

Prior to this appointment, he had served as MD/CEO of Warri Wolves; Board Member of Nigeria Premier League (NPL) and as Chairman of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).

He is a titan in Nigeria domestic football as player and administrator of note. He started playing the game from his primary school days, and then played for Government College, Ughelli, NEPA FC and NNPC FC both of Warri, Flash Flamingoes, Bendel United, Sharks FC of Port Harcourt among others, and had stints in Greece, Cyprus, Qatar and Spain in his professional football odyssey. He also featured briefly for the senior national team.Executive Secretary of the NPFL Club Owners Association, Alloy Chukwuemeka said Owumi received a rousing applause by the General Assembly which was also attended by the representative of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, even as he assured that he would bring to the table his wealth of experience to add more value to the system.

Meanwhile, the General Assembly has okayed December 17, 2021 as the kick off date for the 2021/2022 NPFL season.

This was part of the resolutions at the end of its General Assembly meeting held on Tuesday at the corporate headquarters of the LMC at Maitama in Abuja.

Addressingjournalistsshortlyafterthemeetingwhichlasted forover five hours, Chukwuemeka said the new season would start and end early enough in ordertoaligntheNPFLprogram with the international Football calendar.

He said Nigeria football followers should expect a new brand of NPFL season with lots of innovation and robust competition amongst the participating clubs.

Earlier the LMC had announced that more sponsors and partners would be unveiled soon to boost the revenue streams of the league side NPFL television coverage of the matches and other activations.
