As the end of the year approaches, most people are already dwelling on all the goals they failed to achieve and the disappointments they endured.
Regret can be all-consuming, and it can destroy lives. We can see it all around us. Unachieved goals, unmet expectations, disappointments and failures.
*How to conquer the end of the Year’s Regrets:*
1. CHANGE Your FOCUS:
One of the easiest ways to remain down and dejected is to focus on what hasn’t worked for you.
And this is the major reason behind people’s depression and suicidal thoughts especially when the end of the year approaches.
Changing your focus is a skill you can use to improve your results in any situation.
2. WATCH Your THOUGHT
The thought you choose to dwell on and allow to occupy your mind will have a huge effect on how you feel at the end of the year and predict how you start the new year.
When you find yourself overthinking, and you notice that your thoughts have turned negative, you are far better off stop ruminating and instead take action that goes against them.
3. REMAIN POSITIVE:
In order to end the year without regret, you must remain positive, and that is not automatic.
Remaining positive is a daily challenge that requires focus and attention. You must be intentional about staying positive if you’re going to overcome the brain’s tendency to focus on the failures and disappointments of the past.
4. REPOSITION YOURSELF:
To be able to stay positive, it is essential to have influences in your life that support you and lift you up instead of dragging you down. Your association is very key to the way you feel about yourself.
We tend to absorb the actions of those we spend a lot of time with. It is no doubt that by constantly being around these positive and bright souls, you too will become a ray of sunshine!
5. CULTIVATE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE:
An attitude of gratitude means making it a habit to express thankfulness and appreciation in all parts of your life, on a regular basis, for both the big and small things alike.
This attitude is cultivated by taking time out every day to focus on the positive. Any time you experience negative or pessimistic thoughts, use this as a cue to shift gears and think about something positive. In time, a positive attitude will become a way of life.
Every day won’t be perfect, but focusing on what we are grateful for tends to wash away feelings of regret.
6. DON’T ENVY SOMEONE ELSE’S ACHIEVEMENTS:
So many of us are living other people’s dreams and admiring their achievements in the wrong way. We are going to different destinations and so our stories must be different. Getting distracted by other people’s achievements reduces your focus on the gradual progress you are making.
7. EXPERIENCE MORE:
This is one of the greatest mistakes people make. They tend to end the year before the year ends. You can still do some more this year.
Travel, go out with friends, see places, pursue a little more and experience life because that’s what we are supposed to do while being alive, live.
