Former Green Eagles captain, Chief Segun Odegbami, MON, has reasons to rejoice. His new FM radio station, Eagle 7 Sport Radio will commence broadcasting in a matter of weeks.
Those who follow the affairs of the talented former footballer, know that the Eagle had been in flight for some time, in terms of planning, organization and finally, this safe landing to join the growing ranks of Nigeria’s radio stations.
Odegbami, a respected syndicated columnist, TV sports talk show host and proprietor of Segun Odegbami International College of Sports, Wasinmi, Ogun State, has added broadcasting to his business portfolio.
He became famous as the Green Eagles No 7, whose signature dribbling runs on the touchline, often ended with either a cross into the 18 yard box, or a shot that resulted in goal.
As the most famous striker/winger for both Nigeria and the IICC Shooting Stars, he was one of the most feared players of his generation.
Odegbami’s presence on the field unsettled opposing teams, and any squad was happy to have him. Eagle 7 Sport Radio obviously derived its name from his membership of the senior national soccer team, and the famous No 7 shirt. The name was deliberately chosen perhaps to stamp the Eagle 7 Sport Radio into the psyche of the people. It’s a clever marketing strategy designed to promote the brand.
