Nigeria and Ghana will rekindle their rivalry when the senior soccer teams of both countries meet on March 25, 2022, at Cape Coast, Ghana for the first of a two-legged World Cup playoffs.
Five days later, the Black Stars would be trading tackles with the Super Eagles at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. This is a must-win encounter for Austin Eguavoen and his coaching crew.
Nigerians are willing to overlook the unexpected exit of the Super Eagles at AFCON 2021 in Cameroon after an impressive first round. The Eagles must remember that even though the present Black Stars team might look weak due to their poor run at AFCON, they could still upstage the Super Eagles in Abuja because of their pedigree. Whenever the Ghanaians are playing Nigeria, they now found extraordinary inspiration to defeat our team. They normally give their best.
After the Ghanaians have replaced their coach and reorganized the team in anticipation of a tough encounter with Nigeria, who have always given Eguavoen a stronger mandate and added Emmanuel Amuneke to the coaching crew.
The errors of AFCON were chiefly these: Our coaches didn’t change tactics after qualifying for the second round. A more determined Tunisia took advantage of this error and overran our team. Every game should be approached with a different match strategy and game plan.
Ghana are beatable. The minnows they met at AFCON proved that the Eguavoen team should be purposeful and determined, and with the right approach, they’d overcome the Black Stars who are still rebuilding after their AFCON debacle.
Nothing but victory would satisfy Nigerians who are still hurting from the disastrous elimination of the Super Eagles when they seemed to be on the road to Success at AFCON 2021.
