Many pastors act like mentors to their followers, especially to the youth population. Some of these relationships are riddled with crisis because of wrong ideas of mentoring.
Here’re a few tips that would help you work out a crisis-free relationship with your pastor:
- Honour your Pastor but don’t worship him or her as the case may be.
- Listen to the counsel of your Pastor only if it is Godly and backed by scripture. Do not accept every counsel hook, line, and sinker.
- Do not allow your Pastor to impose a marriage partner on you against your will. Some Pastors try to match-make to their own advantage in a bid to find a partner for a spiritual daughter or son.
- It’s wrong to get involved in an affair with your Pastor because they desire it; such a sin could destroy your relationship beyond repair.
- Be wary of Pastors who give prophecies. Some of these messages are not from God.
- Reject unbiblical practices with your Pastor, such as spiritual bathing, touching of your sensitive parts during prayer/deliverance, etc. There’re immoral and satanic.
- Your relationship with your Pastor must be completely asexual (without sex). Do not get into sexual affairs for deliverance purposes; it’s totally satanic.
- Avoid financial transactions with your Pastor, like giving of loans or supply of goods on credit. They could be problematic and lead to quarrels.
- Love your Pastor like Christ loves the church and no more.
