IF your attention is still on whether Liverpool will win the Premier League, it is time to shift your thoughts to Liverpool completing an unprecedented quadruple this season. What are the odds?
Carabao Cup is already in Liverpool’s collection thanks to defeating Chelsea in the final. Though not highly rated, it counts as one of the four major titles in the English game.
Liverpool are so exceptional this season that they are almost flawless. There is an intense, healthy competition among its deadly finishers to keep scoring. They are doing a great job of it.
One of the remaining titles well in Liverpool’s view is the Champions League where the predictions are that they could encounter City in the final. Liverpool needs to get over the Spanish side of Villarreal whose defeat of Bayern was a major upset in the UCL quarter-finals.
Will Liverpool prevail over Villarreal, then City?
Pundits rate City above Liverpool in the UCL. Both are playing the best game of their lives this season. We wait.
The other is the pulsating contest for the Premiership the podium position for the title changes by the hour on match days. Again, it is a straight duel between the duo after Chelsea’s inexplicable 4-2 loss to Arsenal marked Chelsea’s closure of any EPL title ambitions.
City remains atop with a point’s advantage. It is not a comfortable position with the possibility a slip, no matter how small, could be a title final call at this stage.
Does anyone remember City’s 13-point? Liverpool brought it to nothing with sizzling consistency. A vital point stands between them and City. They may not be decided until the final day, 22 May.
Liverpool has shown a capacity for doing many things at the same time week in, week out, and coming out successful. Their scoring abilities are high. The 4-0 victory over Manchester United was a statement of intent
City responded in an almost similar manner against Brighton on Wednesday with a 3-0 margin. Who will be the first to win while the other loses? The remaining fixtures paint pictures of possible wins for both sides in their remaining EPL matches.
Liverpool got to the final of the FA Cup at the expense of City for the final date with Chelsea. Remember Liverpool beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup only months ago. Liverpool are deemed capable of doing it again.
An unprecedented Liverpool quadruple will happen if City and Chelsea allow it.
City has Watford while Liverpool’s game with Everton is on Sunday. The two top teams are expected to win though misfortune could hit either of them or both.
Mangled Manchester United would continue their futile fourth finishing dreams against Arsenal, Wednesday’s night surprise 4-2 winners over Chelsea. If United win, the best they can get is the fifth place. Their low goals count would not make that possible.
Other games of consequence involve Norwich, and Burnley who are fighting for a chance to remain in the EPL next season. They are so down, Watford inclusive, that they need miracles.
Enjoy your weekend of football feasts.
