Djokovic slams ‘crazy’ Wimbledon ban on Russian, Belarusian players

World number one Novak Djokovic said Wimbledon’s decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine is “crazy”. Wimbledon announced on Wednesday that it had barred all Russian and Belarusian players from this year’s championships due to the invasion, which Russia calls a “special operation”.

Serbia Open 2022: Novak Djokovic Rallies To Beat Laslo Djere In Three Sets To Enter Quarterfinals

Novak Djokovic rallied from a set down to beat compatriot Laslo Djere 2-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) in the second round of the Serbia Open 2022 in a match that lasted almost three and half hours.

The top-ranked Serb struggled to find his rhythm in what was just his fifth match of the year and the 50th-ranked Djere created break-point opportunities in all four of Djokovic’s service games in the opening set.

Fury takes dig at Joshua during Dillian Whyte’s face-off

Tyson Fury wasted no time in hitting out at rival Anthony Joshua as he promoted his fight with Dillian Whyte.

The ‘Gypsy King’ came face-to-face with challenger Whyte for the first time ahead of their upcoming heavyweight title clash at Wembley on Saturday. The winner of this fight is expected to be in pole position to face the winner of Joshua’s rematch with Usyk later this year, providing Fury does not hang up his gloves.

And Fury took the chance to aim a dig at Joshua, accusing him of dropping out of the heavyweight title picture. “Now I am fighting my old pal Dillian Whyte back home in England for all the glory and all the belts,” Fury said. “Who would have fought it? Even me and Dillian probably wouldn’t have thought it in front of 94,000 people at Wembley.

‘Osimhen not getting quality service from teammates’

Former Napoli midfielder Salvatore Bagni has jumped to the defence of Nigerian Victor Osimhen, following his below-par performance in Napoli’s 1-1 draw against Roma on Monday.

Osimhen has often been criticised for his inability to shine against some of the big teams in Italy, with Atalanta and Lazio the only two teams among the elite clubs in Italy he had scored against.

Against Roma, Osimhen did not play his best match and appeared too isolated forward and often cut off from the game. The former Lille forward only touched the ball 20 times before he was substituted late on.

Kenyan-born Bahraini runner found dead in running hub

A Kenyan-born Bahraini athlete was found dead in her native country on Tuesday, an incident that has revived memories of the killing last year of record-breaking distance runner Agnes Tirop in the same town.

Damaris Muthee Mutua’s body was discovered in the world-famous running hub of Iten in western Kenya and police said they have launched a manhunt for her Ethiopian boyfriend.

Mutua, 28, competed for Kenya as a junior athlete and won two bronze medals at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore and the East African junior athletics championships in Khartoum, before switching her allegiance to Bahrain.
