We continue our series on Faith. Last week, we talked about righteousness. The type Abraham had made him righteous because he believed in a God he saw.
He was told by God to sacrifice his son, Isaac. He was about to do so when God stopped him and, instead called his attention to a ram in the thicket, which he killed in place of Isaac. This substitutionary sacrifice was replicated by Jesus in the new covenant when he was crucified for our sin.
It was a substitutional sacrifice. Instead of you dying for your sin, accept that Jesus died for you, to receive the gift of salvation free.
Therefore, Abraham’s sacrifice was a type of that of Jesus. So, now, Abraham believed in God and it was credited to him as righteousness; if you believe in Jesus Christ, you are likewise made righteous. That’s the way it works.
I believe that is understood. Now, we’d deal with faith to receive a blessing from God. The bible makes clear that you cannot get anything from God unless you have faith. You must never doubt that you will receive what you asked of God, regardless of how the circumstances look.
A double-minded person is unstable in all their ways, and therefore, can’t receive anything from God.
Ask and you will receive. That’s the principle. Ask and believe that you will receive. Knock a door and believe it shall be open. When you visit a neighbour, and you knock on their door, you expect them to respond. That’s faith. When you board a flight, you expect the pilot to fly you to your destination. But when you ask God for something, you doubt that he would do it. That’s a lack of faith. You believe a pilot you don’t even know; you believe a cab driver you don’t know, so much so that, you take it for granted that he would drive you safely to your destination.
When it comes to God, you doubt. That way, you cannot receive anything from God. Once you ask, consider it done. That’s the point of this teaching. Please, read the recommended scriptures in the footnote. Enjoy your day. We hope to continue next week. (Jas 1:5-8, Jas 5:15-16, John 9:31, Matt 7:7-11, Heb 11:16)
