When Rev Chris Okotie mounted the pulpit last Sunday, June 16,2023, he was in his element.
The charismatic preacher, singer, political reformer, and leader, presented his Proposition for Interim Government before a packed auditorium and a large turn out of journalists from all arms of the media -TV, Radio, Print, and online.
After worship and homilies on Father’s Day, the Reverend began speaking on his Vision for Nigeria and the need to restructure the federation and create a workable, viable, and sustainable system of government for Nigeria before the 2023 general election could hold.
As widely reported by the media since last Sunday, Okotie himself wants to head a government of national unity and reconciliation.
He posits that several people in different ethnic groups have been hurt by the shades of bad leadership Nigeria had experienced in the past and that a just, equitable, humane, efficient, and people-oriented government ought to be put in place first, to reengineer the nation and deliver a new constitution that reflects the will of the Nigerian people before any meaningful election could be held.
Okotie puts himself forward to head such a government because he conceived the vision and knows exactly how to go about implementing the ideas he has proposed.
Okotie has been promoting the concept of an Interim Government for years. He believes that no incumbent president would be able to Restructure Nigeria as his own position would be threatened.
That’s the same reason why the National Assembly, which Okotie considers irrelevant, would never legislate itself out of existence.
The only feasible option is an Interim Government where current future political actors are not going to be participants.
Only someone who is committed to reordering the architecture of governance without having a vested interest can undertake this sensitive assignment. That’s why Okotie has put himself forward.
