Here’s the amazing story of multitalented singer, musician and chess player who didn’t allow his natural handicap as a blind person, to affect his life.
I have decided to let Akinola Opeolu to tell his exciting story directly. Enjoy the brief, but inspiring profile of this great Nigerian:
My parents had six children of which four are blind. I became an orphan at age nine. I attended Federal Govt College Lagos without money to pay fees or wear proper uniforms. After agraduating from the university,
I set up a band with some disabled musicians which I led till 2010 after positioning it as a favourite of some state govts and high-level private patrons all over the country. Although I studied history, I am the pioneer computer trainer of blind persons and learnt how to build and fix computers. I am now a certified accessibility professional with a master’s in Disability Studies. I am married with three children.
