Nigeria has something to celebrate from our athletes abroad in a season of sad stories from the federal capital.
First, talented Super Falcons and Barcelona FC striker, Asisat Oshoala won a record fifth Best female African Football player award in Morocco. Then,Tobi Amusan ran a superb race to set a new World record at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA.
In the same event, compatriot, Ese Brume won a silver medal in the Long jump event.
The three musketeers did Nigeria proud. We need this news in the heat of terror attacks,in the face of helplessness by government, to rekindle hope that our youth are still alive and able to compete in world.
All three athletes were groomed and nurtured abroad by competent coaches with world class facilities at their disposal.
Nigeria is not without talent, what is lacking is quality leadership and the relevant facilities to nurture these talents.
Tobi and her colleagues regularly prove that with stellar performances like this Nigerian youth want to excel; they are no pushovers. I work with them and I know how good they are.
Let Nigeria create the enabling environment for our youth to perform and many world champions would arise from this country.
Congratulations to Tobi, Ese and Asisat.
Congratulations to Nigerians.
