I almost quit athletics –World champion Amusan
World champion and record holder in the 100m women’s hurdles, Tobi Amusan, said she once considered quitting athletics after being left out of the women’s relay team at the 2013 Africa Youth Games in Warri.
She went on to win bronze in the long jump instead, but she admitted she was frustrated with the way officials selected athletes for events.
However, her disappointment turned blessing, after some coaches advised her to switch to the less attractive hurdles event, where she soldiered on to become the world champion after several attempts on Monday morning (Nigerian time).
“The officials were always picking who they wanted in the relay team. Sometimes they would say I didn’t have the experience so they would pick whoever was their favourite,” Amusan told BBC.
Osimhen returns to training after Ostigard brawl
Barely 24 hours after he was dismissed from training by coach Luciano Spelletti following a brawl with a teammate, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen returned to training with Napoli on Tuesday, beaming with a smile.
The Partenopeans are camped at Castel di Sangro, somewhere in the central part of Italy.
Osimhen was angered by a poor tackle from Napoli’s new signing Leo Ostigard, who recently claimed the Nigeria international was the toughest opponent he had faced in his career, leading to persistent complaints and a display of anger by the striker.
Frustrated by his behaviour, Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti sent Osimhen out of the training session to “take a shower.”
