I didn’t know I will be dropping a special tribute any time soon for Uncle Mike . Today is the perfect time to celebrate one of Nigeria’s icon that propagated the Pop culture.
Before I go on to talk about the Omoge Crooner , Mike Okri whom I love to call Uncle Mike I will like to share an encounter I had with him.
I called uncle Mike on this faithful morning that I would love to visit him and talk about his music and experience in the entertainment industry. He humbly gave me an appointment. Though his place was quite a distance from where I was coming from but I made it my life mission as a curious researcher and baby journalist like some of my ipata egbons who taught me the job call me.
I met Uncle Mike waiting for me in the sitting room. He was calm though he had flu and wasn’t feeling good but then we chatted for hours and he entertained me. This period was when the Covid 19 scourge was on rampage. I took all the necessary safety measures before setting out . I also remembered that the following day after my visit Uncle Mike announced on his Facebook page that he tested positive to Covid 19. Little wonder he had flu, etc
For me that was a timely information. Me that I am a local babe . I Jejely quietly started taking concentrated agbo( Local Herbs) and other recommended
Immune booster and that was it nothing do me ( lol).
The few hours spent with this Iconic master brought me to a conclusion that he has been around the entertainment scene for over 40 years and he has seen it all like many of his contemporaries they have on their palm many problems confronting the music Industry and the solutions that can help resolve many crisis the industry is facing today. It is even more thrilling that he has an unusual passion for the upcoming Nigerian Musician part of the reason he set up a record label. He loves to help with voice training, , song writing, music business, etc
