The entrance of two Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) Candidates to the Enete Edo Square on Thursday the 24th of August 2022 for the annual Afiaolu Cultural Festival in Nnewi caused a massive stir and excitement as the mammoth crowd surged to catch a glimpse of their favorite Candidates in the forthcoming election.

The duo of Hon. Sir Joel Ndubueze Ezeani( Nwanayoeze)and Hon. Sir Clement Eloka Ikeh threw the crowd into wild frenzy and jubilation as soon as they alighted from their long convoy. The Afiaolu Festival which took place amidst pomp and pageantry was well packaged by Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, ably led by Chief Dr. Maduka Atueyi.

Towards the end of the event, the duo, accompanied by some notable PDP members like Mr. Nonso Ukatu, Prince Chinedu Orizu, and Mr. Unachukwu, and a huge crowd of Party Faithful went to all the stands belonging to the different villages and quarters to pay homage and present gifts to them. Their presence at the event really added spice and turned the ceremony into a carnival of sorts.

It was a clear indication that the duo are the choices of the masses for the 2023 general election. In a brief chat with Pressmen at the close of the ceremony, Hon. Ndubueze Ezeani said that his mission is to effectively represent Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives.

Asked to mention the major thing he would do for his people, he said, first of all, he would like to empower his people and embark on Constituency projects that will directly impact his people by making sure that no outside Company is brought to handle their projects so that the youths can benefit maximally.

He promised to do his Constituency work diligently and remain accountable to his people.”. Asked if he will not renege on his promises after the election, he replied: “No! no! I am going there to fight for my people. Most of my programs are centred around the youths. This insecurity problem are caused by a lack of jobs for the youths. So, most of my employment programs are going to settle the issue of youth restlessness.”.

Also speaking, the PDP Candidate representing Nnewi North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Sir Clement Eloka Ikeh, stated that: “My message to Ndi Nnewi is that Ifediche is coming. There is going to be a total change and turn around in the way our people are going to be represented, we are going to do things differently.

It will not just be about making Laws, we are going to make sure those Laws are implemented for the overall benefit of our people. We will also make sure we embark on massive human capacity building. Human capacity building is what you do in a Society to make sure everything is moving effectively and efficiently. In Legislature, you have three major key areas that you are supposed to handle.

The first is to make Laws, the second is to have oversight functions and the third, which I so much love is for the voice of my people to be heard, which is the major thing I’m going there to do. I’m going there to make sure that the voice of my people are properly heard. When it pinches them, I should know, when it touches them, I should know and I’ll make sure that those are the places we are going to touch and address.

Nnewi Members House of Assembly have been going there all these years and they have tried their best, which can be bettered. When I get there, my approach will be different, Town Hall Meetings will be my top priority and watchword.

I will go and come back to my people to report and make sure my people assess my work and that it is what pleases them that we are going to do; because if you are representing a people and they are not happy with you, you are only there to make a mockery of yourself, but when you represent a people and they ask you how far? And they see for themselves that you are doing well, it will encourage you to redouble your efforts.”. It was a very successful Afiaolu Festival and the PDP Candidates really added colour and glamour to it.
