As the January 1st 2023 Ofala Festival of His Royal Highness Igwe Engr. Nick Muodom Obi FNSE Igwe Nnobi, draws closer, the President- General, Stakeholders, and the vast Majority of the people of Nnobi in Idemili LGA of Anambra State, have called on all and sundry to close ranks and make sure Nnobi have a hitch free and successful Ofala Celebration and ensure that the 2011 Constitution is strictly adhered to.
Speaking in an exclusive interview in his office at the Town Union Secretariat, the President–General of Nnobi Welfare Organization, Barr. Dominic Okpala, underscored the importance of cooperation and understanding in dealing with Community issues.
The Learned Gentleman posited that whatever stand or position one takes in matters of Community affairs should be in tandem with the interest and progress of the town. According to him, he believes that everyone is working towards the things that would further advance the cause of peace, progress and development of the town.
He therefore called on his people to put the interest of the town above personal and parochial interest, saying that the part cannot be bigger than the whole. On the Planning Committee of the Ofala Festival, he revealed that after initial hesitation, the Central Body( Nnobi Welfare Organization) has recommended a Representative for the Committee on the understanding that the Committee will operate in line with the 2011 Constitution.
He explained that before they agreed to send their Representative, they extracted a commitment from the Planning Committee that they would work with the 2011 Constitution as far as the forthcoming Ofala Festival is concerned and that the Committee assured them that it is either that Constitution or nothing. The President General however explained that the Anambra State Government has given the go-ahead to review/ amend the 2011 Constitution and has assured the people that the first materials they would look at is the 2019 Document and that they would embrace and import whatever that is good there and jettison whatever is not good. Asked to speak to the people of Nnobi, he offered:
” I want to appeal to the people of Nnobi that we have set apart the 1st of January 2023 for the celebration of the Ofala of our reverred Traditional Ruler and we have gone a step further to tell our people to keep that date sacrosanct. No other event of any kind will be tolerated to be held on that day. That day is in honour of our respected and lovable King,His Royal Highness, Igwe Engr. Nick Muodom Obi,Igwe Nnobi. We want make this Ofala Festival spectacular.
We therefore call on all the people of Nnobi especially those in the diaspora to come back home during this yuletide and patiently wait till the 1st of January to participate in the Ofala Festival. So far, we are enjoying the cooperation of everyone in this Community and we will continue to work for the peace, progress, and development of our dear town. Thank you very much.”
