It rained goals in the preliminary round matches of the Abisco Football Championship, ongoing at the Abesan Youth Centre, Iyana-Ipaja, area of Lagos.
32 teams began the battle for the top prizes of the competition sponsored by Hon. Princess Olabisi Adebajo, the Executive Chairman of Mosan-Okunola LCDA, and at the end of the preliminary round of matches, 16 teams have emerged for the second round of matches, that would eventually produced 8 teams that would be grouped into two groups of four teams each.
And it has rained goals aplenty with 44 goals scored in 16 matches. Some of the highlights of the competition were the impressive performances of Fortune FC and Ablaze FC, both teams, parading the youngest players of average age of 16 years.
Speaking on the matches played so far, the tournament’s manager, Deborah Okediadi, expressed her delight with the standard of play and the discipline exhibited by the teams during the 1st round of matches. Adding that the organisers would improve on its activities and ensure that high level of organisation is maintained.
Meanwhile, the teams that have qualified for the second round of matches have been scheduled to start Tuesday, November 29, at the same venue, are 6th Avenue Boys, African Church Youth FC, Bolaji FC, Maradona FC, Super Soccer International FC, Golden FC, Wilson Int FC and Ultimate FC.
Others are, Baba Kwara FC, Super Raiders FC, Fortune FC, Samdebb FC, Soccer Chambers, Green Boys, Abisco Babes and Ablaze FC.
