Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has slammed Kalvin Phillips, saying the England star cannot play for his team for returning from the 2022 World Cup’ overweight.
According to Guardiola the Englishman was also ‘unable to train’ due to his weight.
Phillips was surprisingly missing from Guardiola’s side that beat Liverpool 3-2 in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night.
Philips played just 40 minutes for the Three Lions at the World Cup, as they were dumped out at the quarter-final stage to France.
Guardiola told the press on Friday ahead of their Premier League game on Boxing Day, “He is not injured, he arrived overweight.
“I don’t know [why he is overweight]. He didn’t arrive in the conditions to [take part] in training sessions and to play.
“That’s why he cannot play.”
