By Akeem Busari

NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has continued to receive commendations from stakeholders in the Nigerian football, over his decision to extend the tenure of the Interim Management Committee of the NPFL from the initial three months, till the end of the season.

Commenting on the latest development, one of the country’s well respected football stakeholder and activist, Harrison Jalla has thrown his weight behind Gusau over the latest decision.

Speaking with journalists, Jalla noted that there is nothing the IMC could have achieved in three months.

“Realistically, nothing can be achieved in 3 months. Let’s not deceive ourselves. The ideal thing to have been done to permanently stabilise the NPFL, is to give the IMC a minimum of 18 months and a maximum of 24 months. This is the only way to bring the NPFL back to a sound footing and an even keel,” Jalla stated.

“The NPFL was dead, riddled with corruption, lack of transparency and a hub of under the table deals, before the IMC took over. The IMC, is not composition of magicians. We are talking about the flagship of Nigeria domestic football here. There’s no need to hurry the IMC out and get the NPFL stuck again. That would be disastrous.

“So far, the IMC is on a mission to reposition the NPFL and this should be encouraged by the NFF and all stakeholders. We must ensure that a safe and enduring structure is in place before the IMC leaves. The sacked LMC, left a huge debt profile and litany of unresolved litigations. Stakeholders don’t want the NPFL to go back to Egypt.”

He admonished the NFF to encourage and support the IMC to handle the situation of reviving the NPFL with utmost care. Adding that the results in 2 weeks of 2022/2023 season, speaks for itself. As well as, the standard officiating, and to the incredible performances of teams away from their home ground.
