Political parties and their supporters in different walks of life have continued to intensify preparations ahead of the February 25, 2023 Nigeria general elections. And the sports, particularly, the football community, are not left out of this rush-hour campaign activities.

Towards this elections, some ex-Eagles players led by Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Daniel Amokachi would be trading tackles with members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, to be led and captained by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa in a novelty football match aimed at mobilising and galvanising supports for reelection of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Presidential bid of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as, every All Progressives Congress candidates in the forthcoming elections.

In a press statement by Match International, the organisers of the exhibition football match, the exhibition match is to further mobilise supports for Governor Sanwo-Olu and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who were described as great society builders, who have impacted the lives of footballers and other citizens of the state with life changing programmes.

“Most of us who played football in Lagos state, enjoyed the peaceful and conducive atmosphere of the State in our playing days. We believe His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has done well in his first tenure, and it is only wise and ideal to ensure he is reelected for a second term, in his bid to give us a greater Lagos.

“We believe also that the presidency of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would bear positive fruits for this great country. Asiwaju Tinubu is a renowned nation builder and his enviable track records in Lagos state, points to a brighter and better Nigeria, when he becomes president of Nigeria,” it stated.

According to the press release, several political heavyweights in Lagos state, including the APC Lagos State Chairman, Cardinal Odumbaku, MFR, and Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, have endorsed the exhibition match slated to hold February 13, 2023, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.
