It seem the less than three months romance between genuine football stakeholders and the newly elected board of Lagos FA, is heading towards the rocks.
This new development is as a result of what has been described as the dictatorial tendencies of the new board led by Hon. Fouad Oki.
Further adding to the growing discontentment of stakeholders in the activities of the State FA, is the latest press release by the FA, in which it declared the organisers of the proposed Oba Akran Cup as fraudsters, and the 30 years old competition, illegal.
Reacting to the damaging declaration of the FA on the competition, some concerned stakeholders expressed disappointment in the leadership of the board. Adding that it is turning the clock back to the inglorious days of the past FA, which did nothing to encourage football at the grassroots level.
“It’s wrong and totally unacceptable to brand the popular Oba Akran Cup, as illegal. Such negative statements would only help to further discourage potential sponsors of grassroots football.”
While acknowledging that it is important for there to be a synergy and smooth working relationship between the FA board and Divisional Football Associations, the State FA board should not be seen as overlords or dictators.
The stakeholders threatened to stage a huge protests to the office of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to register their complaints about the state of sports generally in the state, as genuine stakeholders and investors in the development of sports in the state, have been relegated to the backgrounds by the unfortunate powers running sports in Lagos State.
